The officer that killed Philando Castile got off and Trevor Noah didn’t hold back about his feelings on the verdict. He expressed his disappointment and disgust with America’s dismissal of black lives. The lack of care and respect for black lives in this country is clear and blatant. So clear and so blatant that not even the gun toting enthusiast we call the NRA have said anything in regards to the Philando Castile verdict.
“There’s a group you would expect would be losing their goddamned minds about this: the NRA,” Noah said. “For some strange reason, on this particular case, they’ve been completely silent. And yet, according to their rhetoric, this is everything that they stand against, right? An officer of the state depriving a citizen of his life because he was legally carrying a firearm.”
But we left one thing out when describing Castile, he’s black! This might be the reason the NRA is silent. Everyone deserves the right to legally carry a gun unless they’re black. Noah posed a question, “How does a black person not get shot in America?”
Great question, that’s one we’re still trying to figure out. The students and staff at the school Castile use to work at gave him nothing but praise. They all talked about how great of a person he was, how he will be missed. Despite the wonderful memories of how great Philando Castile was, he and family were denied justice because to be black in America in the 21st century is still a crime punishable by death.
