Each year we become more informed about the injustices black people face on a daily basis. The movie 13th taught us that although slavery was abolished many black Americans still have to face modern day slavery and that is the INjustice system. The American “justice” system has been designed to prey on black Americans.
For Mother’s Day Black Lives Matters collaborated with Colors of Change and Southerners on New Ground to bail black mothers out of jail who have been sitting in jail due to their inability to pay fines. And now Jay Z will be doing the same for fathers this Father’s Day.
The time he spent creating the documentary Time: The Kalief Browder Story opened his eyes and heart to the injustices poor black Americans face. Kalief sat in jail for a crime he didn’t commit, awaiting a trial to plead his case. Kalief willingly went with officers who accused him of committing a crime he knew he didn’t commit. He willingly went with officers because he knew he was innocent. The violence and mental abuse he faced while in jail was unthinkable and lead him to take his own life.
The injustice system is destroying families. Black men and women who can’t afford to pay fines, black men and women who are innocent but can’t afford bail are sitting in jail. And that doesn’t even include the ones who were wrongfully convicted because they couldn’t afford a decent lawyer.
If you look at the scientific and mathematical sitatistics of when incaceration mumbers increased in the Black community, it was not related to poverty, but rather related to culture! Look at the statisitics of incacreation of Black men during the great depression and the recession of the early 70s that was a depression , on the national Black community, compared to the incarceration rates at the birth of gangsta thug culture , when criming returned to the community as well as gang activity , after all of the conscious raising of the 60s 70s and even early 80s ! So how is it that a brother who has made most of his millions promoting criminal activity in the community , is now like Al Capone doing this kind of charity on Fathers day , a year ago?? Not about hate but about facts ! Lets be clear for the record ! In a NYT interview he was asked about his view of Conscious Rap! Something that he and his wife at a billion dollars, can now make mainstream , if they so desired ! He stated for the record , that he loves conscious rap, but “that He Has to Be Real to HImself” in other words he stated that he refused to go totally the conscious route !
