A video has emerged showing a group of Jersey police officers kicked the cr*p out of a man that had just escaped from a burner car. Obviously, the officers are being called on to step down by many who saw the video but they are maintaining they were trying to put the flames out as the guy had just run from a burning car that they had been chasing!
Yes, it gets a little complex. Shots had been fired in a 6-mile long police chase when eventually Leo Pinkston, 48, crashed his car in front of the EconoLodge in Jersey City.
Officers approached the car guns out when Pinkston came running from the car on fire, he dropped to the ground, the flames appeared to be out from the grainy footage and officers started kicking him before dragging him off.
City Mayor Steven Fulop told the press, “Where appropriate, there could, and probably would be criminal charges.”
However, Carmine Disbrow, the president of the Jersey City Police Officer Union spoke to PIX11 saying it is being investigated and,
“Taking swift action isn’t always elegant, but this video clearly shows that the officers acted quickly to extinguish the flames, and pull this man out of harm’s way.”
Here is the video:
