A woman may be released from prison after serving less than one-third of 99 year sentence for the murder of one infant and the attempted murder of another. The Mandatory Release Law may grant 66 year old, Genene Jones also known as the “Angel of Death”, an early release from prison. This law was created to prevent prison overpopulation. The law states that if convicted of a violent crime between 1977 and 1987 (she was convicted in 1984) the prisoner could be release early due to “good behavior.”
The horrible thing about this story is after further investigation by Bexar County District Attorney Nico LaHood they discovered an alarming spike in infant deaths in during Jones’ shift in the pediatric unit in the San Antonio area. They believe she is responsible for about 60 child deaths which occurred both on and after her shift.
She is due to be released May 2018 but LaHood will not sit silently while Jones’ skates after murdering innocent babies with lethal injections. He has connected another child’s death to Jones. She was recently indicted on a murder charge for the December 12, 1981, death of 11-month-old Joshua Sawyer.
Someone like Jones does not deserve to be released. Hopefully the new evidence found to support this murder will extend her prison stay.
