Grand Theft Auto V Stole Rapper Daz Dillinger Music, But Will He Sued For Intellectual Property Theft?

Unless you have been under a rock recently, you have heard about the enormous sales success of Grand Theft Auto V, a violent video game that has the world enamored with its story line and opportunity to play the bad guy. The video game giants Take Two Interactive and Rockstar Games are behind the series and have made tens of millions of dollars, but it seems they have made a tragic error in judgement.

daz-dillinger-gta-5-i4uApparently, the Grand Theft Auto V creators attempted to low ball offer rapper and producer Daz Dillinger from the Dogg Pound with Snoop Dogg (now Snoop Lion) for use of two music beats for the game. Daz declined their offer, but GTA V used the beats anyway.

In the letter to Take-Two Interactive Software and Rockstar Games, Daz and his attorney say “C-Walk” and “Nothin’ But the Cavi Hit” are used in the record-setting game, even though Daz turned down the company’s “offensively low offer of $4,271.00 for both songs.”

Now, the ex-member of the legendary Dogg Pound is demanding they make him a better offer or — and this is a biggie — recall and destroy ALL unsold copies of the game.

This is a major because GTA V already sold 15 million copies of this game and more than likely has a nother 15 to 20 million copies ready to be sold. And yes, they have made a fortune off of these sales, but they are in a world of trouble.

Let’s not forget we are in America, which is a capitalistic country where the idea of intellectual property is sacred. In fact, it is so important the FBI has a division that focuses on intellectual property rights and theft. We have all seen the FBI warnings not to pirate and resell movies, music and more. You are not to infringe on the intellectual property of anyone in this country and this is exactly where this legal confrontation lands.

The first step leading to law suit in any intellectual property case after you have determined there is a guilty party is to issue a cease and dissist letter. Daz and his legal representation have done so already requesting a better offer than the insulting $4,271 for the two songs or destroy every copy of the GTA V game and start over.

Needless to say, this would be very costly and almost impossible to do for the GTA V owners, so a second offer will more than likely be made, but with a much higher price tag. Daz and representation has given the owners 14 days to respond with their request. If the offer isn’t up to their standars, then GTA V will more than likely be sued and find themselves in intellectual property court facing some serious fines and possibly jail time for their theft.
