During the summer months, there seems to be an influx of child deaths due to parents leaving their children in the car accidentally and sometimes intentionally thinking it’s harmless. The number of children that died inside cars from heat-strokes increased across the country last year and Texas had the highest number of cases. Due to one of those deaths hitting close to home, a 10 year-old invented a device to prevent this from ever happening again.
Bishop Curry V from McKinney has invented a life-saving tool that every parent could use. He was inspired to create a device he calls “Oasis” after a baby died in a hot minivan last summer near his home.
“I knew exactly where the house was,” his father, Bishop Curry IV, told NBCDFW News.
The tragedy was devastating because the Curry family has a 1-year-old girl of their own.
Curry V’s tiny 3D model is presently in the design phase. The device would attach to a car seat, detect if a child is left inside the vehicle and then blow cool air until parents and authorities are notified.
“It would be a dream to have lots of inventions that would save many lives,” Curry V said.
He has a provisional patent on the “Oasis.” And Toyota has taken notice of his invention. The family recently traveled to Michigan to introduce the idea at an auto safety conference. Curry V is taking steps in the right direction. Hopefully we will see invention in cars soon!
”…..and a child shall lead them.”
