This body cam footage shows police doing what they seem to do on a daily basis, going around tasing people (and sometimes shooting them) for what seems like absolutely nothing! Sure, the job is stressful but that’s why you are trained! Other countries don’t seem to have an issue near as bad as the US police use of force….
Now, this case has some back story so help us out here….
Is it excessive force?
First, the video, then some backstory written after:
Police were responding to a call that there had been a fight between two homeless men.
The officer fired the taser less than 10 seconds after his initial command and from my watching it seemed a little of an over reaction, the homeless man’s lawyer is calling it clear excessive force.
The man, Gregory Heard, was arrested and is actually currently in jail for second-degree assault charges for the fight that the police were called for.
As Heard’s lawyer, John Holland, said
“Most people who run into police are being suspected of something, the question is what did they do while being suspected by police — this case is about police abuse of power.”
