While it seems there are endless abuses against the black community by police every now and then an officer steps up and does something beyond right!
In this case a young man faced jail. However, the officer thought back to his youth and when he had a mentor and inspired by this set the young man another task, 200 pushups! Not an easy one, but one the young man will probably thank the officer for immensely.
Arlington Officer Eric Ball was working as security for Cinemark and was made aware of the young man smoking marijuana outside the front door.
“I asked him to come here,” Ball said. “When he noticed I was an officer, he came walking toward me. But he dropped something in his hand.”
The young man was facing a mideameanor citation and fines. Ball told him:
“You out here in front of the door smoking weed. What are you thinking? That was dumb. So you’re going to go to jail for something dumb today.”
He gave the young man 200 pushups to do as a lesson instead of writing him up. Ball told press:
“The officer who was my mentor, he looked out for me,”
“So I just wanted to do it as a learning tool.”
“It’s easy to arrest folks,”
“But it’s harder to change someone.”
Sadly many young men in the community are without strong figures in their life to look up to. Teachers, police and family should all be looking out for those that need it but all too often young people feel left alone or even afraid of these people. This officer set an example that I would love to see more of.

Big UP’s to the Arlington Police Officer that made the young black guy that decided to smoke weed on the movie theater parking lot to do push-ups then take him to jail or shoot him just Cuz. We need more cops like this. #Policeeverywhereneedtotakenotes #ArlingtonPoliceDept
