We tend to be too nice to people who treat us like crap and put our livelihood in jeopardy. Comedian, Ricky Smith, went to an Olive Garden in Ohio with a group of friend when their waitress told them she didn’t like serving black people. Smith asked the manager if they could have another waiter or waitress. Instead of getting Smith’s party another waiter the manager called the police on Smith and said he sexually harassed someone and purchased drinks for minors. When the police arrived they removed Smith from the restaurant.
Due to his employees’ lack of professionalism and the manager lying to the police, Olive Garden’s VP of Operations called Smith to apologize and gave him a $1,000 gift card as well as a $5,000 donation to his charity Random Acts of Kindness Everywhere. Smith later tweeted about the incident:
@olivegarden is making a sizable donation @RAKENow #rake and in addition are giving #RAKE $1,000 in gift cards to host families in need.”
Now the part of this story that completely blows my mind is that Smith begged the VP not to fire the racist waitress and the lying manager. What he doesn’t understand is that their lies could have landed him in jail and when people get away with lying, mistreating others, stealing or whatever they are likely to practice the same behavior. Although it is a kind gesture for him to care about their well-being during the holiday season, they didn’t care about him going to jail and having a record. I honestly think this behavior will lead to the demise of black people, we are far too kind to people who delibrately try to hurt us.
