If you call Michelle Obama an ‘Ape in Heals” and expect anyone NOT to think that’s racist then you are crazy and clearly living on another planet! The official who made this comment and the mayor who said that it made her day needed to get the hell out of their positions. This behavior can never be tolerated. And now, it seems, public pressure has produced the right result, being quiet is never an option and sometimes it results in some action!
Pamela Ramsey Taylor, the director of state and federal-funded nonprofit, Clay County Development Corp., in West Virginia made a facebook post last week where she posted:
“It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady in the White House. I’m tired of seeing a Ape in heels,”
The mayor of clay (a small town near Charleston), Beverly Whaling, responded to the post saying that it made her day!
The post was deleted but it did not go unnoticed and social media rallied behind a call to remove both from their positions.
A petition grew and national media attention, it gained over 84k signatures by Tues morning
Clay County Development Corp. director Pamela Ramsey Taylor wrote the offensive post after Donald Trump was elected president in an exchange that also embroiled the mayor of Clay, a small town near Charleston.
she wrote.
Clay Mayor Beverly Whaling replied to the comment, “Just made my day Pam.”
Taylor later deleted the post, but screenshots of the exchange have been shared widely on social media and critics began calling for the removal of both officials on Sunday night.
A petition calling for them to be fired had garnered more than 175,000 signatures as of Wednesday morning but it’s goal to remove them from their posts has already been met.
The mayor apologized in a statement to The Washington Post:
“My comment was not intended to be racist at all. I was referring to my day being made for change in the White House! I am truly sorry for any hard feeling this may have caused! Those who know me know that I’m not of any way racist!
“Again, I would like to apologize for this getting out of hand!”
And Taylor claimed the backlash “has been a hate crime against me.”.
Both of them deleted their facebook pages.
And now, Taylor has been removed from her post and the mayor said in a statement
“I, Beverly Whaling, will be resigning as mayor of the town of Clay, effective immediately,”
JUSTICE! This kind of racism and hate cannot be tolerated!
