On November 23, 2012, 17 year old Jordan Davis was murdered by 47 year old Michael Dunn as he sat in a car listening to music.
Finally justice has been served. Dunn was overheard telling his girlfriend that he hated that “thug music” before he approached Davis and insinuated a verbal confrontation which quickly turned deadly when Dunn claims he saw a gun in Davis’ hand. A gun that has never been found.
Dunn apologized to Davis’ family but given the fact that he returned to his hotel room, had a drink, ordered pizza and walked his dog after murdering their son, it’s hard to believe the apology was sincere.
After the prosecution declined seeking the death penalty Circuit Judge Russell Healey told Dunn, “Mr.
Dunn, your life is effectively over…What is sad is that this case exemplifies that our society seems to have lost its way.” Judge Healy sentenced Dunn to life in prison, this sentence will accompany the 60 year sentence he received in February for counts of attempted murder.
Just 9 months after the murder of Trayvon Martin we were plagued with another situation were a young black teen’s life, Jordan Davis, was taken simply because he was black. At least this time justice has been served.
