A video has been circulating showing Halifax, Virginia cops pulling over a black lady driving. They ask her if she knows why she has been pulled over and she is polite and nice and says she doesn’t.
The cop tells her that she was pulled over for driving without an ice cream on the hot day.
They hand her some cones and she burts into laughter.
An act of goodwill, a joke, but really, is it funny?
A lot of people are probably going to run my ass for saying this but personally this leaves me feeling terrible.
Anytime a police car comes anywhere near a black person the feeling must be fear. Fear on many levels, fear that you will be profiled, fear you will be harshly treated, fear you could die.
As we’ve seen recently, reaching for you paperwork may be enough to get you shot dead by the wrong officer.
I am sure the officers were genuinely trying to harbor good feelings in the community but I think it was purely thought through.
What do you think?
