Cops in Rhode Island accuse man of assault but video reveals they attacked him first.
The video was presented in court and the judge exonerated the 29- year old man who was charged with assaulting a police office as well as resisting arrest. Apparently, two Providence police officers were shutting down an illegal party. Esmelin Fajardo, the victim, maintains that the police tried to force him to leave even after he explained that he worked at the club.
The police officers ordered him to leave the premises.
Evidence gathered from a security video at the club showed one of the officers mercilessly punching Fajardo multiple times and even hitting him with a flashlight and using pepper spray on him even after he stepped away as ordered. The officer said the confrontation started when Fajardo balled up his left, which impossible because Fajardo’s left hand does not have any movable fingers due to a birth defect. The officer also claimed that Fajardo assaulted him, but as the video shows, Fajardo was defending himself from the ruthless blows to the head and face by the officer.
Racial discrimination remains a serious problem and it is up to the authority to take strict disciplinary measures against officers who break the law and excessive force to deter discrimination.
