Have you heard of Republican congressman Steve King of Iowa? Probably not, right? Well, this man seems he is trying to make himself known it seems and his latest idea for a bill simply won’t play well, we hope.
King is putting forward a block stop funds from the treasury being used to redesign currency.
This comes at a time when the new $20 has plans to feature a real U.S. hero, abolitionist Harriet Tubman.
The Associated Press reported:
Under plans announced in April by Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, Tubman would replace Andrew Jackson on the front of the $20 bill. The abolitionist and former slave who was a leader of the Underground Railroad will become the first African-American featured on U.S. paper currency and the first woman on paper currency in a century.
Andrew Jackson, the nation’s seventh president, will be moved to the back of the bill, which will also retain an image of the White House on the back.
Other bills will have significant changes too.
King is often outspoken, especially when criticising U.S. immigration policy and his Democrat opponent thinks this is a publicity stunt.
Really, I think this has enough public support that he seriously can’t have a hope! Most of us can agree this is for the good of the country and education, image and beyond.
