Rebecca Knight is a black female police officer. Her white partner shot and killed her brother and the relationship is more than complicated. To add, her father blames her for her brother’s death.

This is the setting for the new project from legendary John Singleton. Rebel will start shooting this week and Singleton is producing the show for BET.

Singleton has never shied away from black stories and issues and in 2014 he told black filmmakers that they need to create movies about African-American culture.

Actress Danielle Moné Truitt will play Rebecca “Rebel” Knight. Mykelti Williamson, (You can remember him as “Bubba” in Forrest Gump) will star as Rebel’s father Rene. Cliff “Method Man” Smith will play Rebel’s ex and Brandon Quinn plays Rebel’s partner.

Personally I welcome this show although it’s going to be hard to put all these issues into he light they deserve.
