Shonda and Shalisha Witherspoon, identical twin sisters recently graduated from Florida International University on May 10th. The sisters aged 25, completed their Bachelor of Science degrees at FUI’s College of Engineering and Computer Science in the IT sector with an average GPA of 3.95. Apart from being toppers in their graduating class, these girls are also amongst the first of six siblings to go to college in their family. While earning their college degree, the Witherspoon twins learned to speak Japanese and wish to design tech apps and video games in Japan in the future. The girls developed a fond love for Japanese art and computers since childhood. They enjoyed watching their elder brother fiddling with devices and drawing Manga characters, a Japanese anime style of drawing.

“They’re Path Breakers in every way” FUI President, Mark B Rosenburg tells the Miami Herald. The girls are breaking gender stereotype in the Tech Industry and it’s insightful to know that they never went to school. They received their K-12 education via home-schooling which was undertaken by their parents. Their journey is a paradox to the clichéd theory that home-schooled students can’t be well prepared for college.
