Queen Nzingha was born in 1653 and ruled Matamba and Ndongo Kingdoms (Angola).
That was the reason she was also known as Amazon Queen of Matamba. She was named among great leaders of Africa in 17th Century.
Queen Nzingha was known for her diplomacy and excellent military leader. It came a time when Portuguese troops invaded capital (her
brothers’ Kingdom) and many were taken as slaves. Her brother King Ngola sent her to negotiate a peace treaty which was successful. When Portugal betrayed the treaty, she organized her army which caused resistance and rebellion.
She had strong convincing power and determination. Using her political act, she managed to partner with Dutch to fight Portuguese. She
had the right choice of words towards Dutch that made it cooperate. She had a strong will of developing her kingdom of Matamba. Although many were eventually enslaved, she kept fighting for her people.
Queen Nzingha also made Matamba a trade gateway in Central Africa.
She died at age of 81 and left a legacy of diplomacy, determination, political act and excellence.
