No one can deny the fact that slavery is one of the most inglorious elements in American history.
A man that goes by the name of john Cummings says that Americans must take responsibility for the wrongs of slavery.
This retired real estate magnate had purchased the antebellum plantation grounds in Louisiana 16 years ago and has been working on the slavery museum, which was opened in December 2014, the entire time. Whitney Plantation now serves as a source of information about the past for the generations to come thanks to slave cabins, a French Creole-style Big House and memorials that can be found there, including a wall with all of the slaves’ that were in the state of Louisiana names.
“The US government should have built a museum like Whitney Plantation, but it has not because of the prejudice.”
All of this creates a memorial site that not only serves as a great educational resource but also impacts people deeply. There are still new additions being added to the site and Cummings hope to bring in 100,000 visitors this year.
Cummings plan on donating the museum to a group of HBCUs in the future and to start an institute of slavery on the property.
“We cannot rewrite history,” he states, “but we can change some of the evils of history. In America, we can do it through education.”

Someone needs to constantly remind our people of the atrocities that happened in our families once they reached the shores of America. If we never learn anything we will end up where we began. Thank you John Cummings.
