Sanders was asked about his racial blindspots in yesterdays debate and replied with an answer explaining how white people don’t know what it’s like to be poor living in the ghetto.
Sanders recounted how when he became a congressman around 20 years ago he was shocked to learn that another black senater avoided taking taxis because he was sick of drivers driving past him. He also went onto talk about how a young Black Lives Matter member told him you about the day to day terrorization by the police in black neighborhoods.
He says she told him
“You don’t understand the degree to which we are terrorized. … I’m just talking about everyday activities where police officers are bullying people,”
He went onto say
“When you’re white, you don’t know what it’s like to be living in a ghetto,”
“You don’t know what it’s like to be poor. You don’t know what it’s like to be hassled when you walk down the street or you get dragged out of a car.
And I believe that as a nation in the year 2016, we must be firm in making it clear, we will end institutional racism and reform a broken criminal justice system.”
Now, some people have started giving him trouble over this… what do you think?
