Chicago Police Officer Robert Rialmo is planning to sue the estate of Quintonio LeGrier for assault and emotional distress, says his attorney, Joel Brodsky. Rialmo’s attorney is planning to file the civil lawsuit in a weeks’ time.
Quintonio LeGrier family insists that there was no justification for officer Rialmo to shoot LeGrier four times at the back. Rialmo argues that he shot LeGrier for self-defense because the youth attacked him. LeGrier was not the only victim, because an innocent bystander, Bettie Jones was fatally wounded in this gun shootout that happened after Chrismas. Officer Rialmo was responding to a domestic distress call in West Garfield Park.
The LeGrier family responded to this plan by calling it a desperate and baseless accusation, attempting to move away from the facts that a teenager was shot four times at the back, notes Bill Foutris, the attorney for the LeGrier family. There is little information about this case, but attorney Larry Rogers Jr is trying to reveal as much as possible to the public. Larry Rogers is representing the family of Bettie Jones.
Rogers notes that his team is reviewing 43 dash-cam videos that show the aftermath of the shooting to know what happened. However, he notes that he hasn’t received the text messages between Rialmo and his partner, and other videos from the area that could help in solving the mystery of the murder.
The attorney is also looking for the names and titles of officers who received the 911 distress calls from LeGrier. Before he was killed, LeGrier called 911 three times, notes Rogers. This information will help to know what LeGrier thought when he sought the assistance of the police. The police ignored the first two calls by LeGrier insisting on knowing what was happening before they could help. They only acted on the call from the father who was accusing his son on intending to break his bedroom.
Larry Rogers believes that this was not a proper way of handling a person who was in need of a police officer’s help.
