Brothers Wrongly Imprisoned For Murder Get Millions From Ohio

Two ex-prisoners from Ohio now have another reason to smile after a court awarded them millions in compensation for “wrongful imprisonment.” The two brothers, Wiley Bridgeman and Kwame Ajamu will now receive $2 million and 2.4, on top of the initial payment, which totaled to $970,000 for both of them.

The two men were sentenced to death in 1975 for murder, but last year, a key witness who testified against them recanted her testimony, forcing the court to reconsider their case, and eventually exonerating the two alongside anther convict, Ricky Jackson. The witness said in 2013 that the Police in Cleveland had threatened to jail her parents if she did not testify against the two brothers.

The two were released, after which they filed a federal lawsuit against the state for “wrongful imprisonment”. They were awarded an initial compensation to the tune of $970,000, but the Ohio court of claims has now increased the amount.

According to his lawyers, Ricky Jackson’s prison time could be the longest time someone served in prison for an offense he did not commit.
