Police Who Stop The Public Filming May Face $15k Fines In Colorado!

It’s a right to film the activities of police as long as us civilians are not interfering in the investigation. Personally I would say that in today’s circumstances it’s actually a responsibility.

However, sadly, many people are intimidated into not filming, police often threaten and even physically harm people who try and keep public record of what is happening.

Sadly Texas is looking to take this right away, to stop civilians having the right to film police BUT there is a different story in Colorado.

Alternet reported:

A package of bills that are designed to increase police oversight has been introduced in the Colorado Legislature. One of the measures included in the package would impose up to ,000 in civil penalties for cops who interfere with someone trying to film them.

“Primarily, it came up as a result of the number of news reports we’ve been seeing about police officers telling people, ‘Give me your camera,’ or taking the data away, and that is unacceptable conduct,” said Rep.

Bill 15-1290 is said to have support from both Democrats and Republicans. It is not intended to penalize police but rather just help weed out a few bad apples that plague the system.

What do you think about this?
