So, there has been a little controversy over a website set up by an Iowan couple as an online platform for white people to meet white people.
The creators say that they set up WhereWhitePeopleMeet.com because there are already platforms for every other race to meet. Using that logic there really isn’t anything wrong with the site, right?
Personally I think a BIG BIG WRONG?
One of the owners allegedly defended the attacks and said that “I dated a Black woman once.
“, this stinks of priviledge and racism from the outset!
What is and isn’t ok is of course a difficult topic. While there are many outlets catering to African American / black dating there are reasons these places need to exist.
White people are not a minority, they have an unbelivable level of privilege and lets face it, meeting other white people on the conventional existing sites is not exactly difficult.
Tinder, Ok Cupid and the other mainstream apps are predominately white already and there is no force for any person to try and arrange a date with a person of any specific color.
However as a minority things get tougher, there may be legitimate reasons why you want to date someone similar to yourself and having a platform where you can be sure to meet people like you culturally, visually is ok as far as I can see.
I would love to know what you think?
