For a long time South Africa’s black population in the growing wine scene was as workers on the fields with no idea of the process, no idea of the fineness of the product that was being produced.

Luckily things are on the up now and there are black owned and operated wine comapnies producing some of the finest the country has to offer.

One black owned company in particular is pushing the way ahead by not only producing internationally acclaimed wine but by also being women owned and operated.

Seven Sisters was formed in 2007 by, you guessed it, 7 sisters. Originally from a small fishing village and also happen to be black. When they started their company, an all black all woman company, they were already breaking boundaries.

Now they have a solid brand and some of the best wines, they are helping their family, fellow black South Africans and of course women in a country which is still suffering the wounds of apartheid.

Seven Sisters fame started to spread abroad not long after their formation when an American lady was so taken back by one of their wines that she spent her life savings to import it to the USA. Instantly the first batches sold out and it was not long before Walmart came knocking to stock five of the seven flagship wines.
