Thirty-five-year-old Robert Pickett, of Los Angeles, and Darryl Lewis, 39, of Gardena are in court recalling an ordeal where they claim police shot them without identification or provocation. They then created a fake crime scene, later planting false evidence, and framed the pair for murdering a pedestrian that they claim was killed by the police car on the way to the scene.
The men say they spent the day BBQing and relaxing. In the eve they went to a complex to visit one of the men’s cousin. The police say they had received a call about a potential break in happening and when one officer arrived he is said to have jumped out of his vehicle, shot both men with a shot gun without provocation or identification.
They men spent a year in jail over the incident waiting for trial which started in December 2013, eventually it exonerated them.
The two men are suing officer Bolliger (who shot them), four other officers, and the city.
