Washington has been been in the business now for nearly 30 years and during that time he has become a pillar of quality who doesn’t shy away from grand and important performances, comedy or a bit of action. He has tackled serious characters such as Malcom X and brought social issues to the front with movies like John Q and at 60 years old he is still busting ass in new action flicks!
Basically this man has been a positive role model for the community and one adored over the world. So, the news that he is going to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Golden Globes is not at all surprising, rather it is overdue!
He will be given the Cecil B. Demille Award, which a lifetime achievement award for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment,”
The award was first given on February 21st, 1952 at the 9th Annual Golden Globe Awards to director Cecil B. DeMille. Throughout it’s history only one black male (no women) have previously gotten the award, that man was none other than Morgan Freeman.
Denzel will receive his at the 73rd Annual Golden Globes on January 10, 2016. It will be presented at at 8 p.m. EST, so make sure you are tuned in!
