No Justice, No Shopping! No Justice, No Peace!
Finally, the people are waking up to where to hit the corporate machine known as America to create change, THE POCKETS! Economic and civil disobedience has been called for a long time to start the wheels of change in this country, but we may be seeing it’s birth as a moment in Chicago.
LaQuan McDonald was brutally gunned down by a Chicago police officer 13 months ago and he is just now being brought to justice, but the people are fed up over this behavior and the efforts to cover it up by the administration and politicians. And in Chicago, they are taking to the streets to distrubt the most profitable shopping day of the year.
Protesters organized downtown Chicago along the Magnificent Mile of Michigan Avenue. They formed human chains in the street, blocking entrances to stores preventing people from entering or leaving and generally distrupting the flow of money to these large corporations.
The hope is to stop the money, so people understand how serious everyone is about not only getting justice for LaQuan McDonald, but to ensure things like this never happen again.
Carrying signs that read “Stop police terror” and chanting “Rahm Emanuel has to go” and “Garry McCarthy must step down,” protesters blocked traffic on both sides of the Mag Mile. Guided by police, the protest along the Mag Mile remained peaceful.
“This is what it should be about,” one protester told NBC 5. “This is Chicago. This is an international city. We can’t afford to let the embarrassments of other places happen here. We have to be the example. Justice in Chicago, I believe that.”
We will be following this development and will keep you posted, but power to the people and much love to those out in the streets sacrificing to make a difference in the lives of black and brown people around the country!
