Mercutio Southall Jr. is a well known activist and is no stranger to abuse. While protesting at Donald’s Trump’s recent Birmingham rally for Black Lives Matter he says he came up some serious abuse yet it was him that was led out and even Trump had something to say about it.
Donald Trump is the leading Republican candidate right now and these terrible incidents only seem to be strengthening his campaign!
Talking to AL.com Mercutio said: “I’m alive,”, and that he wasn’t seriously injured despite having 8-9 people pummel him and throw racial slurs such as n****r and monkey.
He says he was there because of Trumps recent remarks regarding minorities. Birmingham is a predominately black area (75%) so it seemed as strange choice for Trump.
The trouble was reported to have started when Mercutio was being filmed by another activist. An attendee at the rally knocked the phone from the guys hand. Mercution said “They said ‘Go home, n****r, and somebody punched me,” he went onto say said. “I punched back. You know don’t do the turn-the-other-cheek.”
He says he was then circled and was pushed and punched from all around until he was underneath everyone. He was kicked and punched by men and women and then was even choked out from behind.
Police and Secret Service escorted him out and Trump was heard saying “Get him the hell out of here.” in the background of a video by CNN reporter Jeremy Diamond.
Mercutio says he would support a police investigation and criminal charges against his attackers.
As for Trump, it’s unclear if he knows about the alleged racist slurs but the Washington Post reported that he said on Sunday:
“Maybe he should have been roughed up, because it was absolutely disgusting what he was doing,” Trump said on the Fox News Channel on Sunday morning. “I have a lot of fans, and they were not happy about it. And this was a very obnoxious guy who was a trouble-maker who was looking to make trouble.”
