The compassion of the youth is something every adult should admire, inspire and learn from these days. This trio of siblings are amazing with their chosen musical instruments, but their desire to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate is nothing short of sensational.
Lauren, Ashleigh and Christian Conner are the three classical music artist attempting to change their corner of the world. The two sisters are gift violinists and the brother is a cellist, but all three have the amazing human ability of compassion.
People Magazine tells the story of how the benevolent musicians started with charitable ways.
“I saw [the homeless people] on the street and I felt sad for them,” Christian, 9, tells PEOPLE.
The three moved from Sussex County in October with their parents, Zenobia and Keith Conner. Zenobia says that from the moment the family got to the city, Christian wanted to help.
She tells PEOPLE that the young cellist would repeatedly ask her for money to give to the less fortunate and, after awhile, she said, “If you want to give some money to the homeless, then go out there and play your cello.”
With that motivation, the young cellist grabbed his trusty instrament, his sisters and they began to make beautiful music for the commuters of the Fulton Street subway station while asking for money to give to the homeless.
They play an assortment of works from composers like Beethoven, Bach and Karl Jenkins and on that first day after two hours of playing beautiful music they were able to raise $240. Wow!
Thus far, they have raised a total of neverly $500 for their effort. However, being the young aspiring changemakers they are, they have a desire to raise much, much more. But…..
“[Christian] gets sad. If he doesn’t have money to give to [the homeless], he gets sad,” Ashleigh tells PEOPLE. “So he’s like, ‘I really need that money.’ “
What a beautiful spirit these three amazing children have. With their talent, effort, and support of their loving parents, there is no doubt they will achieve all their goals and much, much more.
Lauren wants to attend Harvard Medical School. Ashleigh isn’t sure if she will go to Harvard or continue her musical career at an arts college. And Christian is just focused on helping others at the moment.
There is ZERO doubt the future of this trio is bright as the musical masterpieces they put together.
Hats off to these lovely children and the parents for doing a PHENOMENAL JOB!
