Music has the power to motivate and unify a people. If this true, then we hope Janelle Monae and her label mate’s new song does just that.
The entire Wondaland Records roster is involved; Monae, Jidenna, Roman GlanArthur, Deep Cotton, St. Beauty and George 2.0.
“Hell You Talmbout” is the anthem heating up social media this week. The bold song forces the listener to remember the names of black people killed by law enforcement. Each of the participants take turns speaking the names followed by a repeated chorus of “Say Her Name” or “Say His Name”, think of the hashtag.
Janelle Monae continues to speak out on our issues proving to be a person of the people.
[ADSENSE2]“This song is a vessel,” Monáe explained on Instagram. “It carries the unbearable anguish of millions. We recorded it to channel the pain, fear, and trauma caused by the ongoing slaughter of our brothers and sisters. We recorded it to challenge the indifference, disregard, and negligence of all who remain quiet about this issue. Silence is our enemy. Sound is our weapon. They say a question lives forever until it gets the answer it deserves… Won’t you say their names?”
