You have to love social media because Governmental hypocrisy cannot live in the age of information if people are willing to shine a light on what the “powers that be” are trying to hide. A light is exactly what Twitter uses to expose the black only curfew enforced in the city of Baltimore.
Following the police killing of Freddie Gray a few weeks back, massive amounts of protest, marches and civil disobedience broke out across the city of Baltimore. People were expressing their pain and sorrow for the death of another young, black man dying at the hands of the police under suspicious circumstances.
As a result, the Maryland Governor elected to enact a “citywide” curfew for residence of Baltimore that ran from approximately 8pm to 5am the following day. Anyone caught on the streets in Baltimore were to be detained, arrested and processed for violating the curfew.
HOWEVER, it seems this curfew wasn’t a citywide initiative put on by the Governor and patrolled by the National Guard and the police force. In fact, this curfew only applied to black neighborhoods where marginalized black people lived, worked and were outraged over the killing of another young, black man.
How do we know this to be true?

Because of Twitter and other social media outlets tell and show us the living proof. Many white people used the hashtag #BreakTheCurfew to prove it clearly didn’t apply to them.
White people, living in white neighborhoods were not under any sort of curfew restriction. This is evident because they began posting pictures of themselves outside after the Baltimore curfew was put into place.
They let everyone know there were no police officers or National Guard members in places like Bolton Hill and other white areas of the city.
This means only in black areas were the National Guard and police on duty restricting the moments and actions of the people, not everyone. And apparently, some of these areas are just blocks away from where the national guard and police were enforcing the curfew.
As one of the images reveal, thank God for conscientious white people willing to stand up and say something. Otherwise, we wouldn’t really even know the depth of the hypocrisy we are living under.
