#BaltimoreDistraction: Mom Praised for Smacking Her Son Allowed Herself To Be Exploited

by | Apr 30, 2015 | News | 0 comments

By now you have seen the videos, memes, interviews and news shows promoting the Baltimore mother for whooping her child on video.

Toya Graham was in Baltimore the day civil unrest broke out. She noticed one of the young people to be her son. Instinctively she reacted, whooping the child with smacks, punches, frustration, love and fear.

It was all caught on video and the world has been debating ever since.

Baltimore Mom whooping sonShe has recently spoke out about the incident:

“At that point, you know —  [I was] not even thinking about the cameras or anything. That’s my only son, and at the end of the day I don’t want him to be a Freddie Gray.”

Personally, I don’t have any problem with the reaction of Graham. I’m a parent and try not to judge all their decisions because I know there is lot of story wrapped in the 15 sec news blurb we get. And I don’t think her actions were inappropriate. Get in that butt when you see fit….but that’s my personal opinion.

However, I do take issue with Grahm and the so-called mainstream media for the exploitation that followed. It is disgusting…and Grahm willing took part in the shenanigans parading around from show to show getting 15 mins of fame framing bogus storylines, distracting the central issue and creating more smoke.

  • FAKE SUPPORT of Corporal Punishment by the white media. We know if you discipline little Johnny for being a bad boy, someone is calling DCFS or the Cops on you.
  • FAKE NARRATIVE that if you spank / discipline your children, then won’t end up dead by the police. WRONG! Most of these cases have nothing to do with that because it is the police department that is acting out of line and treating black people unjustly and brutally.

What’s missing from all of these stories the  mainstream media are creating is the heartbreak and decades long frustration with the police department, legal and economic systems in the city…and around the country.

This situation wasn’t created overnight, it came from somewhere.

These stories take away from the central focus of the pain and anger.

SOUND OFF: What do you think of Grahm, her discipline, and the media exploitation?
