Famed ESPN Anchor Stewart Scott Passes Away

I am saddened to report that famed ESPN anchor and one of my major journalistic inspirations Stewart Scott has lost his eight-year battle with cancer. While it seemed he bested the ravishing disease, reports have surfaced that he indeed passed away this morning. Love him or hate him, Stewart Scott leaves a mark on the sports industry that is undeniable. He was suStewart Scott acceptance speechrely one of the more known sports journalist of his time with the innovative way he carried himself during telecasts.

Stewart Scott was the epitome of the word “on-air personality”. With his signature catchphrases, vernacular and charisma, he made watching shows he was featured in such as Sportscenter entertaining and informational. I first ran across him as a basketball obsessed 6th grader that would religiously watch ESPN every Wednesday and Friday for the NBA Countdown preshow. Stewart and, then, Stephen A. Smith gave me hope as a young black man wanting to one day get into the media industry. It’s because of figures like him that I’m even where I am now as an author and journalist.

Stewart will surely be missed. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of journalists that span all fields. I know he inspired me and his memory will continue to as time wears on. Make sure to be yourself family! Create your own personal trademark and you’ll withstand the test of time.
