What were you doing in the 8th grade? Homework? Hanging out with friends? Enjoying the summer off? Better yet, how much money were you making from your chores?

Malcolm Brickhouse (13), Alec Atkins (13), and Jarad Dawkins (12) have just inked a record deal with Sony for $1.7 million. That’s more than most 8th graders can even think of.

The Brooklyn bred trio have a metal band, and recently performed at Warped tour and Coachella. The deal guarantees 2 albums: the first with a $60,000 advance, and the second for up to $350,000. The deal has options for up to 6 albums.

The group was discovered by Steve Jordan while playing in Washington Square Park. They also have a book deal with publishing powerhouse Penguin, to debut around Christmas, and possibly a documentary.

We’re proud to hear that these three boys are following their dreams, doing something positive, and being rewarded for it. Bravo!
