7 Lesser Known Facts About Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

MLK was of course a remarkable man and one of the most important in recent history. As today marks the 30th day of Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the United States we thought we would bring you a few lesser known facts.

1. He wasn’t born with the name Martin, his dad changed that when he was five! He was born Michael King Jr. in 1929.

2. He is the youngest man to ever win a Nobel Peace Prize.

3. His wedding night was spent in a funeral home because there were no honeymoon suites for blacks.

4. In 1958 he was stabbed. The woman who stabbed him was deranged and believed he was working with communists. This near assassination happened at his first book signing!

5. He has over 900 streets named after him across the USA!

6. Although only 39 when he died his autopsy revealed his heart was more like a 60 year old due to the stress he had endured.

7. It’s very surprising to know he only achieved a grade C for public speaking!
