In 2013 Trayvon Christian did a terrible thing! He walked into Barney’s in New York City and purchased a belt for $349. You may be wondering what the crime was? Well, it’s awful to say but he had the audacity to go shopping whilst black! You would have thought if he wanted to do such a thing he could have been white, at least for one day!

Ok, enough sarcasm!

Christian was followed for a block, taken into custody and interrogated because a staff member had reported his card was probably stolen. After a few hours the police gave the $349 belt back and his card, they also apologised.

It was reported the case went on and Barneys ended up paying the State “$525,000 in fines and legal fees as apart of a larger federal case in which several other African American customers had their lavish purchases at the retailer question by authorities.”

So, Trayvon managed to get a settlement from the state too, $45k to be exact!

A spokesman for the city’s Law Department commented: “Resolving this litigation was in the best interest of the city.”
