365 Black History: May 21st – Happy Birthday Biggie Smalls, First Black Senator, Educational Achievements, & More

The 365 Black History serious is designed to give our community a chance to learn and appreciate the achievement, struggles and experience of our ancestors, inventors, business people, scientific, educators, children and more.

On May 21st in Black History

1833 – Black students enroll in classes at Oberlin College, Ohio.

1862 – Mary Patterson becomes the first black woman in the U.S. to earn an M.A at Oberlin College.

1881 – Blanche Kelso Bruce sworn in as a U.S. Senator.

1904 – Thomas “Fats” Waller, jazz pianist and composer, born.

1972 – Christopher “The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace, hip hop artist, was born.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest American rappers, hip hop artist of all time. Biggie Smalls, as he is sometimes referred, has created some of the most iconic music in the genre to date.

His life was cut short when he was killed March 9th, 1997.

Our history has a long, glorious and bright light that has shown since the dawn of time. However, it has long been hidden from us as if we were blind.

Now is the time to come together and consciously grow our understanding of our ancestors, culture, history and place in this world.

The only way we can do this tie the knot of our past with our present to create the future we all desire.
