365 Black History: April 29th – Duke Ellington, Harold Washington, LA Riots & More

The 365 Black History serious is designed to give our community a chance to learn and appreciate the achievement, struggles and experience of our ancestors, inventors, business people, scientific, educators, children and more.

On April 29th in Black History:

  • Macon B. Allen and Robert Morris Jr. first Blacks to practice law in the US, open practice in 1845
  • “Duke” Ellington, musician and composer, born, 1899
  • Harold Washington sworn in as the first Black mayor of Chicago, 1983
  • The LA Riots, sparked by the acquittal of four White cops in the beating of Rodney King, begins, resulting in at least 50 dead, thousands injured and estimates of up to $1 billion in property damage, 1992
