21 Things You Do Online While the Rest of the World is Dumbing Down on TV

There are people who will look at you like you are nuts if you spend too much time online, on a computer, or on the Internet.

Mind you, these are the same folks who will stick their faces in front of a dead-brain Idiot Box called television for hours on end and act like it’s perfectly normal to sit and stare and get absolutely nothing done outside of absorbing other people’s crapola day and night.

That’s why you know stuff, and they forever wallow in not-knowingness.

Good job.

While they were zoned out and busy being dictated to about what to watch, when to watch it, what time, and what to think about it, here is what you were multi-tasking and getting done in the meantime while designing your own teachings and formulating your own opinions instead of someone else’s:

1-Reading, Writing, Arithmetic: Honing your basic leverage skills and getting advanced at it.

2-Researching and studying to get real information about the news, literature, history, businesses, and just about everything else you need to know — from thesauruses and simple dictionaries to specialized dictionaries and scholarly resources.

3-Writing, live chatting in words or by video, group chatting, radio blogging, and emailing. Keeping in touch with people that you need to or want to in real time; exchanging information with people around the world, often in their own language; and safely meeting new people “hands off” and having dialogue and communications that you many not otherwise be able to have.

4-Learning a new language and/or work skill, hobby or activities of daily life skills, such as coding, web design, accounting, financial management, budgeting, marketing, business writing, how to sew, cook, take care of plants, read maps, and darn close to everything else you ever dreamed of learning — much of it for absolutely FREE.

5-Job Searching. If you’re looking for work, that is. Applying for whatever you need to apply for since nobody likes paper and snail mail any more.

6-Sending packages or getting information about packages you have received.

7-Ordering books and music, shopping, downloading recipes and discount coupons to use at the brick’n’mortar stores; booking travel and hotels at lower prices than folks who don’t use it. Burning CDs with downloaded music, which is very often cheaper than paying for CDs in the store.

8-Purchasing needed items at lower prices than retail; getting better prices because of the massive amounts of competition.

9-House and/or apartment hunting.

10-Starting an online Business or Organization that can easily become an off-line business or organization.

11-Finding out absolutely everything you need to know about your government on the local and national levels, and everyone involved in it without being lied to by corporate-owned news media.

12-Getting the news firsthand before anyone else has heard it, because you’re usually watching it “as it happens,” not minutes or hours later.

13-Watching television, movies and listening to music- all the same time if you dare. Yes, you can STILL get the Idiot Box online, if  you insist.

14-Attending Bible studies and going to church; attending school and classes.

15-Printing out things that you have to have on paper, including eTickets and boarding passes for travel ventures.

16-Reserving movie, concert and event tickets there’s not need for waiting in long lines or waiting to get there to purchase.

17-Finding out what celebrities “really” do for a living when they’re not pretending, and what charities they contribute to — the stuff you will likely never hear on TV unless they are forced to confess it.

18-Finding a church, or any other place you want to go – such as libraries, restaurants, airports, group meetings, conventions, seminars, etc. to attend in person, and getting the directions to get there.

19-Drawing, coloring, sketching, playing games to exercise your mind; working up spreadsheets, doing surveys, getting valuable market information you may need for later.

20-Paying bills, sending and receiving money.

21-Scheduling appointments and reminders, which can often be sent via SMS to your telephone.

Certainly you can name a few more yourself to add to this list.

Now if only they can get online voting through a secured server up and running so everyone who wants to can vote online, the world really will change for the better.

But if you insist on dumbing-downdedness, you can do that online, too …
