Back in July Ernest Crim posted to his YouTube account, a video showing an irate woman calling his wife a racial slur and spitting on her.
Her wrote (video also below):
While at “Chicago Margarita Fest” with my wife (at the South Shore Cultural Center), we were approached by a belligerent and irate woman named Jessica Lynn Sanders, who called my wife and I “nigger” repeatedly, knocked my phone out of my hand and spit on my wife.
All of this was because we picked up a bean bag that she and her friends weren’t using to play the Bean Bag Toss game. This is the experience of being black in America in 2016, unfortunately.
He then responded as to why he and his wife didn’t respond violently. He wrote under the new video (video also below):
Are you ready for the confusion? How will you react? On July 30th 2016 my life unknowingly changed forever, when my wife and I made the split second decision to NOT respond physically to the vile and malicious racist attack by white supremacist Jessica Lynn Sanders at the Chicago Margarita Fest. Why exactly didn’t we respond the way she wanted us to? This video explains it all.
Speaking later in an interview with DNAinfo Crim said “What [Sanders] did is just a symptom of something that society, this country, is producing. She’s just outward with it. Before this even happened, this has been a rough summer being a black person,”
Sanders was stopped by a security guard at the fest but no further action was taken. However, due to Crim and his wife’s perserverance and will power to bring attention to this vile attack, Sanders has now been charged with a hate crime.
She is also said to be on supervision for a disorderly conduct conviction in which she used racial slurs with a police officer!
On Friday, a Cook County judge set her bail at $50,000.
Let’s hope she faces the sentence to set an example that this behavior is not acceptable in any civilised world.
Respect to Crim and his wife for following this through and acting with such conduct, that must have taken a lot of inner power.
