The feeling that you are not even safe in your own home seems like a theme from a dodgy 80s horror movie but sadly it’s a truth for blacks in america. The police seems to think it has rights to harass you any place, anywhere, without consideration for you doing anything wrong.
And that’s because it seems that being born black and doing anything black is effectively a crime, and a punishable one too!
Bodycam footage released shows the arrest of a black man on his own porch in in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Officer Travis Cole and another female officer approached Dejuan Yourse sitting on his porch on June 17th. They were said to be investigating a possible break-in.
Yourse explains he is waiting for his mom, as he did everyday, she has lived there for 10 years. He shows his ID which has the address listed, he tries to call his mom.
Yet, still the police officer slams him to the ground and arrested him. He was charged with resisting arrest and assault on government officials.
Seriously, WTF! The Bodycam footage of both officers can be seen below:
Cole resigned and the charges were dropped.
The Huffington Post reported;
City council members in Greensboro, North Carolina voted this week to strip the law enforcement credentials of a police officer who is accused of violently arresting a man sitting on his porch after body camera footage of the arrest was made public.
The council voted unanimously Monday to permanently sanction Officer Travis Cole for using excessive force during the June arrest. The body camera footage shows Cole roughly throwing Dejuan Yourse to the floor of the porch and punching him as Yourse waited for his mom to come home and let him into the house, according to local news WREG.
The council pushed for criminal charges against Cole, but the district attorney refused, saying he wouldn’t “rehash the same evidence,” the Greensboro News & Record reported.
