Marshawn Lynch Is Not A Black Media Hero

You ever been in Walmart or Target and see some young person sagging while working and thought…really?? at work, you can do better than that…

That’s what Marshawn Lynch is doing with his media time.

This is going to get me in trouble with a lot of you, but fortunately i’m a lot like Marshawn Lynch because I don’t care what another thinks as long as my family loves, honors and appreciates me. They do!

Marshawn Lynch is not a black media hero. There, I said it.

I’m not saying this man hasn’t done wonderful things in his community and around the world. He has.

He is passionate about helping others and works tirelessly doing so. This makes him the hero. This sort of action, caring, loving and giving back is hero material…BOSS, not his stand off with the media.

Actually, I feel his media stance is downright ridiculous.

Granted, Lynch doesn’t give a flying anything what I think. If I were he, neither would I. Nevertheless, i’m venturing into the media to toss my opinion out there in hopes of starting a conversation with you.

1. He Signed The Contract

Engaging the media has been written into Lynch’s contract since he has been in the NFL. It isn’t like this was pulled out of thin air and tossed in front of him. He has known about this and have navigated it before. The millions of dollars he accepted was for his play on the field, off season, staying in shape, much more and dealing with the media.

I’m not privy to the inner workings of the NFL contract, but I know designated media time is in there. During the Superbowl week it was set for 5 mins. Lynch can’t bare 5 minutes for the media? Branding is a big part of the NFL and it is the duty of all involved to do their share.

2. Be a Professional

Full disclosure, I honor and can relate to Lynch’s disdain and distrust for the media. They have never done us any favors. There is no telling what angle or characture of him they are trying to piece together with their sound bytes. He is righteous for being skeptical.

I just think there is a better way to handle it. It can be done more tactfully.

Giving canned answers and phrases are boring, but just look a bit more professional than Lynch’s performance. He doesn’t have to shuck and jive, dance for the cameras. He doesn’t have to dazzle them.

Just don’t mop the floors at Walmart or any other establishment, sagging. Just doesn’t create a great visual. Lynch’s solution to dealing with the media just doesn’t create a great visual.

3. Horrible Example for Youth

Finally, come on, what type of example is this for the youth? All these youngsters looking up to Marshawn Lynch because he runs that ROCK on the field, but this is his attutude and character?

He doesn’t want to fully give his all to a contracted obligation because he doesn’t “Like” the media? That must make it ok for the youth to grow up, get a job and just decide they are not going to fully participate in a part of their job because they don’t “Like” this particular aspect.

Come on, people, this isn’t honorable at all. It can be handled better and Lynch just isn’t being the professional he was paid to be…. and i’m not even going to touch the crotch grabbing.

But enough of what I think. Let’s hear from you.
