I know the title of this article might turn some of your stomachs, but it is time for you to face the facts. The black community has a LOT TO LEARN from the Gay community. There is no denying this if you are able to be real with yourself and our situation in this world.
The chief lesson the black community to be learned is unity.
They ban together and make things happen. Although I can’t stand the comparison of the gay struggle to the black struggle in this country and world, we can learn from everything they are doing.
In recent news, the power of gay unity was felt by one of the lamented CEO’s in America, Brendan Eich, one of the co-founders of Mozilla and the inventor of JavaScript. JavaScript is a popular computer coding language.
Mozilla is the company behind the internet browser FireFox.
Eich was blasted in social media by the gay community and forced to step down from Mozilla as CEO of the company after being assigned to CEO because he made a donation in support of Proposition 8. Proposition 8 in the State of California wanted to ban gay marriage. Eich donated $1,000 in 2008.
The social media pressure was floating through the gay community via Twitter, Facebook and other outlets, but really hit the mainstream with the company OkCupid.com decided to join the battle. Having many gay users of the website, OkCupid.com decided to block access to their website from FireFox internet browser.
This move by OkCupid seemed to be the straw that broke Eich back and got him fired. Oh, i’m sorry, forced him to resign.
The software company came under fire for appointing Eich as CEO last month. In 2008, he gave money to oppose the legalization of gay marriage in California, a hot-button issue especially at a company that boasts about its policy of inclusiveness and diversity.
“We didn’t act like you’d expect Mozilla to act,” wrote Mozilla Executive Chairwoman Mitchell Baker in a blog post. “We didn’t move fast enough to engage with people once the controversy started. We’re sorry.”

If the black community had the gumption, balls, tenacity, insight, and unity to ban together, we could raise all sorts of hell in this country just like the gay community. This man donated ,000 to a campaign 6 years ago and they got him to resign from a company he helped to create.
We can’t get our people to ban together to keep open schools that will benefit thousands of our kids…and you know this list could go on and on.
What say you? Can the black community learn from the gay community when it comes to unity, economic boycotts and more?
I think so……
Hey Jackson Ra, Tis I Aisha Wadud leaving a comment, I think hating blacks sometimes is the wrong thing to say Ra, but now hating ignorance would be the proper term because we all know as UI it is not bliss to be ignorant 😛
Well said, but we not going to let up on our community. Someone needs to punch us in the mouth with some truth. Been babying ourselves for about 50 years now….time to grow up.
We need to “Civil Rights” “Black Panther” up they are the foundation for our community not the Gays. Our history is important. But I get the point.
