In the wake of the Darren Wilson Grand Jury decision, a black child was shot and killed by Police. This time it happened in Cleveland, Ohio, on Saturday. The boy died Sunday morning, according to a police union official.
The young boy’s name hasn’t been released by the police as of yet, but was shot two times by officers in the stomach outside of the Cudell Recreation Center. Rushed to the hospital to try and save him, but he gave way to his wounds early Sunday morning.
From CNN: Police were summoned to the scene outside a recreation center by a 911 caller who said someone — possibly a juvenile — was pointing a gun at people.
“There’s a guy in there with a pistol, you know, it’s probably fake, but he’s like pointing it at everybody,” the caller said, according to audio provided by CNN affiliate WEWS.
“He’s sitting on a swing right now, but he’s pulling it in and out of his pants and pointing it at people,” the caller said. “He’s probably a juvenile, you know?” Source CNN
The young boy was discovered to have a BB gun with the orange safety plug removed making it look more like a real gun. However, the callers reports of the gun possibly being a fake (which it was) was never relayed to the officers responding to the call. They went in with the thinking and mentality that they person has a loaded weapon, armed and dangerous.
The police spokesperson said the boy never raised the gun or pointed it at the police officers, but was still shot and killed after asking him to show his hands. The boy didn’t and instead went towards his waistband. It was assumed, he was going for the gun. They shot him twice in the stomach.
There is an investigation underway centered around these developments. We will keep you posted, but this is the second time a black person has been shot and killed by police in Ohio with a toy gun recently.
