At 107-years-old Donella Wilson has been through more than most of us can imagine. She came a long way in this life through many waves of politics, through the civil rights movement, through a period when blacks could not vote! Her parents were enslaved peoples and she was born in South Carolina. Life cannot have been easy but she made it this far.

She cast her first vote in the 1940s and says that she has not missed a local or national election ever since, the highlight being when she voted for Barack Obama and he actually won! She said that his win will be a moment she’ll cherish forever.

Donella told WISTV.com

“I never thought I would live to see a day like this,”

“I’m over a 100 years old!”

She has her new ID and registration card ready, and she is ready to say something at the polls. Many risked their lives for this right and she is going to make sure it is used.

She went onto say

“We couldn’t spell vote,”

“We didn’t know what the word meant other that we had an opportunity to say something and cast a vote, praying as we go along that the vote could count to help us as a Negro race.”

“I’m looking for her to be our first female president,”

“I think it’s an honor, a precious gift from God.”

Lets hope this amazing lady has a wonderful day, she is showing the youth what they must do.
