Shout out to Omar Epps, who has signed on to be the executive producer of a featured documentary called “Daddy Don’t Go”. The documentary aims to shine a light on the positive fathers who are fighting to stay in their children’s lives instead of those that flee.

There is no doubt the single mom epidemic with no help from the father is rampant in the black community. Yes, there are a pleathora of reasons why, but the media consistently focuses on the negative 1 in 3 children and families that grow without the father.

This documentary is different. It focuses on the brothers that are fighting to do what real men do, BE FATHERS!

Epps released this statement: “Being the product of a fatherless household, Daddy Don’t Go delves into an issue that’s close to my heart.

[ADSENSE2] In the media, we’re always inundated with the notion that black men and/or men from impoverished areas are absent fathers. Though that may be true to an extent, there are also thousands of young men fighting to be active fathers in their children’s lives. This fact gets smothered in the media by rampant negative imagery of black men and fatherless children. Daddy Don’t Go chronicles the journeys of four such men and their respective battles to parent their children. It’s time men like these have a platform and a voice to challenge the statistics and common ideology about the issue of fatherhood.”

The documentary follows four New York fathers as they work at fatherhood the best they can. And no, this isn’t a rosey, only tell the most positive story possible documentary. This is real, raw, showing the highs and lows, but in the end it shows that fatherhood is worth the effort.
