Carondelet High School for Girls in Concord, California wanted to celebrate black history month, but managed to really upset some conscious parents.
The school was serving fried chicken, collard greens, cornbread, and watermelon…..because you know? That’s what y’all eat. (((Wow))) These parents were upset and expressed themselves. The school back tracked and issued an apology.
High School’s Black History Lunch Menu of Fried Chicken, Cornbread, Greens, and Watermelon Spark Controversy
The principal and dean of the school refused to talk to NBC Bay Area on Wednesday, but school officials held an assembly on campus to discuss the issue and sent an apology letter to parents.
“I’d like to apologize for the announcement and any hurt this caused students, parents or community members,” Principal Nancy Libby said in the letter. “Please know that at no time at Carondelet do we wish to perpetrate racial stereotypes.”
Everyone involved with the selection of this lunch menu in honor of Black History Month should are clearly ignorant. There isn’t much else to say about them. I feel sorry for these parents. They must endure madness like this.
Parents shouldn’t have to confront the school for something like this. Someone involved with the school should have some cultural awareness and understanding for the people they teach. This isn’t asking for much.
These officials are disconnected from the black community, but are teaching our kids. If they think that lunch menu is acceptable, what other madness are they doing in “honor” of the black community? How else are we being undermined or disrespected?
Remember they are in control of our curriculums, selected books, and teaching styles.
What do think of the Black history Lunch Menu? Would you have been upset?
Wow… I certainly just received an overwhelming urge to send them a platter-full of uncleaned “Chitterlings” for lunch… you know… to honor authenticity… and to let them taste the SHIZZINESS of their idea! #bonappetit #ignorant #derp
