Experts and staff at Fortune have made a list of the World’s Greatest Leaders in 2016 and guess what! The founders of Black Lives Matters have made the list.
Many social movements have come and gone, fizzled to nothing or just never really got going. However Black Lives Matters is booming, progressive, becoming a force that cannot be reckoned with. Remember the movement only started in 2013, it’s amazing where it stands now.
How did all this happen? Well, three women were responsible.
Activist Alicia Garza started by coining the phrase. Then her fellow Patrisse Cullors made it into a hashtag. They both joined with Opal Tometi and created the Black Lives Matter network which has grown to 28 chapters across the USA and shows no signs of shrinking.
The movement has taken many stances, included many opinions and caused some controversies but is making wins, influencing society and government, giving a voice and making a global impact.
These women were game changers and their foresight made a difference.
The trio appeared at number 27 on Fortune’s list (http://fortune.com/worlds-greatest-leaders/), pretty impressive!
Do you agree with this? Do you think Black Lives Matters is making a real important change or is it a smokescreen that’s achieving nothing?
