A community is left distraught after a histroically black church in Mississippi was burned down and vandalized. Pro Trump graffiti was scrawled on the side.

The incident happened late on Tuesday at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville, Mississippi, luckily no injuries were reported in this vile crime. The majority of the damage was reported to have happened to the main sanctuary.

Greenville’s Mayor, Errick Simmons, spoke at a press conference calling it

“a heinous, hateful and cowardly act”

“an attack on the black church and the black community.”

“This happened in the ‘50s and the ‘60s,”

“This should not happen in 2016.”

The police say they are talking to a person of interest. For all we know, they may have found someone who can recite every major league baseball player for the last 50 years, knowing how these things work, the person of interest is probably not that related and the perpetrators may remain at large!

The FBI is also supposedly determining if any civil rights crimes were committed…… Errrr, what is there to determine?

At this point, seeing as the crime may never be solved, rebuilding strength in the community should be the focus. I’m not personally a religious man but recognise the role of the church as an important place and think it’s rebuilding is a great things. A GoFundMe page has been setup to get funds to repair the church and it will be giving to the church directly. The page can be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/repair-the-hopewell-baptist-church
