UI MEME OF THE DAY, A Daily Series…
And we are off and running.
Counting down to a New Year as of midnight tonight, which happens in approximately 10 hours or so from now, Eastern time, U.S.
It has been interesting filtering through all of the social media memes that have come our way and deciding which ones to flow with and which ones sent a loud and resounding message to all of our Black and Afrocentric readers here at UI.
We are a unique medium and we provide a voice for a unique audience in that there is uniform consistency between fellow writers and TRUE “freedom” of speech for those who have not been empowered in the mainstream to say what they want, when they want, and how they want to say it.
We’ve taught a lot, we’ve learned a lot, and we’ve had our hedges clipped and ends trimmed in some embroiled “controversies,” but we have come to understand that some people “get it” and others have not yet learned to differentiate between what is “negativity” and what is PLAIN TRUTH.
Negativity is a put-down, truth is what it is, whether we like it or not. Truth can be an ego-buster, but it’s not a put-down by any stretch.
That said…
In this universal element called the United States of America, we are often bombarded by slanted, biased, corporatized news and information reporting day in and day out, and somehow … in all that squawking meaningless white noise, Black people’s stories, or “side of the story” never gets told. If it does get told, it comes out slanted and biased, even racist from time to time.
We, as a People, are told to drive to the back lot, park it in neutral, and not to come out and speak unless we are spoken to.
We are proud to say that UI went to the FRONT LOT in order to tell our stories, OUR way … and to drive it all home with a hammer, a nail, and some spitfire logic.
No diggety, no doubt. That’s the way we work it.
So, if you never see another Meme of the Day on Urban Intellectuals again, take your time in 2015 and go through the ones under the category and tag “UI Memes.”
You might learn something. Or you might even find a ‘jewel’ of a lesson in here that sparks you into teaching a class on the topic. In the meantime and in between times, Be Safe.
…and Try to Stay Sane if it is at all possible…
